| The Chapin Residence Four house is set on a steeply sloping one acre site in Coldwater Canyon near Mulholland Drive. The primary idea was to create a "downtown loft" residence in a setting which offered more tranquil and private surroundings. The house is carved into the hillside using concrete floors, split-faced concrete masonry units, open steel truss joists and steel framing with an entire glass wall capturing the canyon views to the west. To soften the palette of raw construction materials, the house will be filled with extensive built-in wood ceiling panels, cabinetry and other special Architectural features. The garage features a pool deck above accessed through mechanically lifting glass walls which create a seamless unity between the indoor and outdoor rooms. |
