ROTH  RESIDENCE
3,500 s.f.
Beverly Hills, CA
COMPLETED 2006
The stainless steel countertops blend seamlessly with the custom built sink as if made
from a single sheet of metal.  Walls were constructed to separate the spaces into
three zones.  The first of these zones contains the ovens, the microwave and the
warming drawer, all stainless steel and set in a wooden face.  The second contains
countertop space and the cooktop.  The third zone consists of the Sub-Zero
refrigerator and a pull-out pantry.  This kitchen, along with numerous other
enhancements, helped to rejuvenate this timeless masterpiece.

The 3,500 square foot Roth Residence in
Beverly Hills is a remodel of a 1963 Post
and Beam house originally designed by the
renowned firm of Buff, Straub and Hensman
and photographed that same year by Julius
Shulman.  The client for this project desired
a Contemporary face-lift to this Los Angeles
landmark.  One of the focal points of this
remodel became the Kitchen, which required
the design of a functional workspace based
upon the underlying theme of clean lines
while maximizing the use of space.  The Kitchen
"floats" with exaggerated toe kicks and deep
recesses between the countertops and
counters.  This kitchen is, aside from the
appliances, completely custom designed and
built.  A pot-filler located above the
cooktop is mounted on stainless steel
between mirrored backsplashes.  The mirrors
both visually expand the narrow space and
provide a visual connection between the chef
and his guests seated at the barstool recess
at the island.  At both ends of this island are
two columns of shelves for bottles of
wine.  On the living room end, these shelves
enclose an under-counter wine fridge.
